Cinderella Man tells the inspiring true story of James J. Braddock, a once-promising boxer whose career was derailed by injury and the Great Depression. The book is based on the real-life events that also inspired the 2005 film starring Russell Crowe.
In the 1920s, Braddock was
a rising star in the boxing world. But after suffering injuries and losing
several matches, his career crumbled. As the Great Depression hit, Braddock and
his family fell into deep poverty. He worked as a dockworker to support his
wife Mae and their children, struggling to survive in tough times.
Just when it seemed
Braddock’s boxing career was over, he was given a second chance. As a
last-minute replacement, he shocked the world by defeating top contenders.
With determination, heart, and grit, Braddock kept winning fights, eventually
earning a shot at the heavyweight title.
In 1935, Braddock faced
the powerful and undefeated champion Max Baer. Against all odds,
Braddock won the fight and became the Heavyweight Champion of the World,
earning the nickname “Cinderella Man” for his rags-to-riches comeback.
