Treasure
Island is a classic adventure
novel about pirates, buried treasure, and a young boy’s journey into adulthood.
Plot Overview:
The story is told by Jim
Hawkins, a young boy who lives with his parents at the Admiral Benbow Inn.
His adventure begins when an old seaman named Billy Bones comes to stay
at the inn. Billy Bones dies after being hunted by former pirate crewmates for
a mysterious map he possesses — the map to Captain Flint’s buried treasure.
Jim, along with local
doctor Dr. Livesey and squire Trelawney, decides to follow the
map and find the treasure. They charter a ship called the Hispaniola,
captained by Captain Smollett, and unknowingly hire Long John Silver,
a cunning one-legged cook who is actually a pirate planning a mutiny.
As the ship reaches Treasure
Island, Jim discovers the mutiny plan. Tensions explode, leading to battles
between the loyal crew and Silver’s pirates. Jim shows courage and quick
thinking — sneaking off, capturing the ship, and meeting Ben Gunn, a
marooned ex-pirate who helps the good guys.
Eventually, Silver
switches sides again, the treasure is found (Ben Gunn already dug it up), and
the loyal crew returns to England with their share. Silver escapes with a small
portion of the treasure.
