The Room is a short Christian allegorical story written by Tom Farr. It presents a powerful and emotional narrative about sin, forgiveness, and the sacrifice of Jesus Christ. The story is usually found circulating on Christian websites, blogs, or spoken-word performances rather than in print.
Summary:
The story follows a young man (the narrator) who
finds himself in a mysterious room filled with drawers. Each drawer is
labeled with categories such as "Girls I Have Liked," "Books
I Have Read," and more disturbingly, "Lies I Have Told,"
"Things I Have Done When Angry," "Things I Have Said in
Secret," etc.
As he opens the drawers, he discovers that each one is
filled with index cards, and every card contains a record of his actions,
thoughts, and feelings. The man is horrified to find that the handwriting on
the cards is his own, and that the drawers stretch seemingly endlessly.
Just as he is overwhelmed with guilt and sorrow, he sees
another figure enter the room—Jesus Christ. Jesus begins to go through
the drawers and, with love and compassion, signs His own name over each of
the cards, covering the narrator’s name. Jesus' hands are pierced,
revealing the cost of that forgiveness.
The man tries to stop Him, but Jesus lovingly insists and
continues to replace the narrator’s name with His own—taking responsibility
for all the sins recorded there.
