Der Hase und der Igel  The Hare and the Hedgehog is a nonsense (ATU 275C). It appears in the Brothers Grimm's children's and household fairy tales from the 5th edition of 1843 at position 187 (KHM 187) in Low German and comes from Wilhelm Schröder's Hannoverschem Volksblatt from 1840 (A Low German folk tale. Dat Wettlopen between the hare and the swine angel up from lütje Heide to Buxtehude). Ludwig Bechstein included the animal joke in his German fairy tale book from 1853 as The Race between the Hare and the Hedgehog in High German (No. 60).
