Author: Agatha Christie
Published: 1953
Genre: Crime / Mystery / Detective Fiction
Main Detective: Hercule Poirot
Summary:
After the
Funeral begins with the death of Richard
Abernethie, a wealthy man. His family gathers for his funeral. At the
gathering, his eccentric sister Cora shocks everyone by saying:
“But he was murdered,
wasn’t he?”
The next day, Cora is
found dead, murdered with a hatchet. Her sudden death makes people wonder
if she was right about her brother’s death — and if she was killed for knowing
too much.
Richard’s lawyer, Mr.
Entwhistle, suspects foul play and asks famous Belgian detective Hercule
Poirot to investigate.
Poirot interviews each
family member and uncovers hidden motives, secrets, and lies. Many relatives
had reasons to want Richard dead — for his money. As Poirot digs deeper,
he carefully studies behaviour, clues, and small details.
In the end, Poirot reveals
the clever murderer, who tried to make the crimes look unconnected. The
story ends with justice served and all secrets exposed.
