The „Cultural Transfer of Music between Byzantium and the West?“ in the past was researched from a Western perspective only. Nina-Maria Wanek  for the first time provides insights about the historical, linguistic and theological-liturgical environment of these chants from a Byzantine perspective and delivers the first comprehensive study of Greek language ordinary chants in Western manuscripts from the 9th to 14th centuries.
This new approach enables her to refute numerous (and largely contradictory) theories on the origin and development of the Missa Graeca abd provides new answers to old questions.
